About Simple Bottle Return

Welcome to Simple Bottle Return—Connecticut's Largest Bottle and Can Redemption Center.

Since

2024

Our journey sprouted from humble beginnings back in 1982 when, at just 15, a young man started collecting bottles from a local restaurant for redemption.  His vision was to provide a service to those who were overlooked by the industry, including small retailers, restaurants, fund raisers, and individuals.  He recruited his father who came out of retirement to help start the business and to play an integral role in building the foundation.  Since then, he has worked tirelessly to build the largest bottle and can return center in Connecticut.  Incorporated in 1994, the company stands today as a testament to the young man’s vision, experience in engineering, logistics, processing, and marketing.  The company services the Connecticut State Bottle Law, enacted in 1980 as a litter control law.  It is the most effective producer of pure, clean plastic, aluminum, and glass for recycling.

Currently located in a 68,000 square foot warehouse at 1100 Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the facility is just two miles down the road from our former location of 30 years, which was on West Broad Street in Stratford.  The company buys all plastic, aluminum, and glass beverage containers that have a 10¢ CT deposit (or “CTRV”) printed on the label from you, the general public, alleviating the burden from local retailers.  We then sort and return them to the distributors who send them off to be recycled.

At Simple Bottle Return, you no longer need to spend your precious time separating your plastic, aluminum, and glass beverage containers before returning them.  The current facility offers you a clean and simple way to return your mixed bottles and cans, with state-of-the-art equipment that counts up to 700 containers per minute.  The average wait time at the new location is now 5-7 minutes.  Our clean facility and expedient process attracts the public as the preferred source for bottle return.

We appreciate our thousands of regular customers, without whom our facility would not be where it is today.  We are proud of our hard-working staff, many of whom have been with us for more than 10 years, for maintaining such a high level of service.  As we look to the future, we are excited to welcome more people into our mission and to keep making can and bottle redemption simple, efficient, and impactful.  Join us on our journey as we continue to simplify the process for you, one bottle at a time.

Our founder, Fred Miers, has been involved with Connecticut’s Bottle Law, and recycling in general, since 1982.  His experience includes diligently working toward the success of Connecticut’s first recycling law, the Bottle Bill, at FCR Inc., in Stratford, by managing the redemption center service, and subsequently managing a Material Recycling Facility (MRF) for FCR in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Over the years, he has participated in lobbying State lawmakers to modernize the Connecticut Bottle Law.  He has the operational experience, trained personnel, and innovative ideas to move successfully and decisively to the next important phase in bottle bill recycling:  The Regional Central Hub Processing Center (RCHPC).

Why Choose Simple Bottle Return

Image

We stand out with our advanced counting system, which is capable of sorting plastic, aluminum, and glass simultaneously.  On average, we can count up to 600-700 containers per minute!

Choosing us not only saves you enormous amounts of time, but it is also cost-effective.  As of January 1, 2024, Connecticut increased the refund value of all deposit containers purchased in Connecticut to 10¢.

Unlike curbside pickup, which often ends up in landfills, we ensure every container you bring to us is properly recycled.
