What Are Bottle and Can Redemption Centers?
What Are Bottle and Can Redemption Centers?
September 30, 2025
Ever wondered what happens to those empty bottles and cans piling up in your kitchen? If you live in a state with container deposit laws (“bottle bills”), those empties are worth more than you think—both for your wallet and the environment. Our team at Simple Bottle Return provides a comprehensive overview of what bottle and can redemption centers are, as well as why you should consider bringing your empties here.
Turning Bottles Into Cash
A bottle redemption center is a place where you can return specific beverage containers—such as soda, water, and juice bottles or cans—in exchange for a cash refund. Instead of tossing the container in the recycling or trash bin, just bring it to a redemption center. Your returns are counted, and you receive your deposit back, making recycling both easy and rewarding.
Why Does This System Matter?
Redemption centers play a big role in protecting our environment. By encouraging people to return containers, these centers help reduce litter, minimize landfill waste, and ensure that valuable materials, such as plastic, glass, and aluminum, are properly recycled. For you, it’s a simple opportunity to earn money on purchases you’ve already made, while for the planet, it means cleaner neighborhoods and reduced resource waste.
Why Participate?
- Cash in your containers: Get instant refunds for eligible bottles and cans.
- Help your community: Reduce waste and contribute to tidier parks and streets.
- Support the environment: Every bottle returned means less landfill and more energy saved.
The Beverage Containers We Accept
We accept any container that is eligible for a refund under the Connecticut Bottle Law, including store brands. This includes: beer, soda, water, iced tea, lemonade, and juice.
Plastic, aluminum, and glass beverage containers must:
- have a 10¢ CT deposit (or “CTRV”) printed on the label,
- be whole (not crushed or shredded),
- have been purchased in Connecticut.
Our facility can process containers 3 liters in size or smaller. Kegs and any spirit containers (wine, liquor, mixed spirits, and “nips”) are not covered under the Connecticut Bottle Law and cannot be redeemed. We cannot process gallon jugs.
